Established in 2001, the Wanaka Sun has become an integral part of the community, remaining the only 100% locally owned, operated and focused weekly local newspaper in the Wanaka area.
A reader survey shows that we have a very loyal readership that read the paper for local news, sport, business and jobs. We have strong representation across all age groups with the biggest cohorts in the 26-35 and 46-55 age groups.
Published every Thursday, 7,500+ copies of the Wanaka Sun are delivered free to every urban and rural letterbox across Wanaka, Hawea, Albert Town, Cardrona, Makarora, Luggate and Tarras. It is also delivered to businesses, cafes, retail outlets, hotels/motels and camping grounds, and it is available from collection points in Wanaka, Hawea, Luggate, Tarras and Cromwell.
We also deliver each week’s edition of the Wanaka Sun to over 8,000 people online – Add this to our our printed distribution and our weekly circulation exceeds 15,000! We have the distinction of being the highest circulated weekly newspaper in the area.
The newspaper is completely funded by advertisers: without the support of local businesses advertising their wares, there would be no paper to bring you your news.
It is a real team effort to produce a newspaper which reflects the diverse nature of our fantastic community – and you are part of it. We thank everyone that contributes, helping our dedicated team of staff to deliver a quality publication every week.
